What is intuitive eating, exactly?

Intuitive eating, at its foundation, is all about trusting your body’s natural hunger and thirst signals (or learning to hear them). We are all born with this natural ability as children, and as adults, we sometimes may need to know how to get it back!

Intuitive eating not only helps you have a better relationship with food, thus ending the diet mentality, but it also helps you get back in tune with your body and what it needs! It is a positive step in the right direction for your physical and mental health.

The Ten Principles of Intuitive Eating are as follows:

  1. Reject the Diet Mentality
  2. This involves tossing the diet books and advice that offers you the false hope of losing weight quickly and easily. Reject diet culture that promotes weight loss and the lies that have led you to feel as if you were a failure every time a new diet stopped working and you gained back all of the weight.

  3. Honor your Hunger
  4. Keep your body well fed! That’s all there is to it! Let yourself eat when you are hungry, but analyze the reasons why you feel hungry. There may be emotional factors at play. Ruby can help you distinguish between these factors and help you regain your intuitive eating skills!

  17. Forget harsh and forced exercise – find activities that you enjoy to keep active! This could be any number of things, from yoga to walking to swimming!

  18. Honor Your Health with Gentle Nutrition
  19. Make food choices that make your body and your taste buds feel good. Intuitive eating is all about gradual progress and self love!
